Welcome to the Carmichael Community Website!
Carmichael is a beautiful, 10 square mile community in Sacramento County, located 10 miles northeast of downtown Sacramento along the north side of the American River.
The community’s land-use decisions are made by the Carmichael & Old Foothill Farms Community Planning Commission, a nine-member body appointed by the County Board of Supervisors. Members are appointed by district with seven in Carmichael and two in Old Foothill Farms. One of original four Community Planning Councils, the newly named Community Planning Commissions meet monthly to vote on issues ranging from lot-splits to cell phone towers. For more information visit the Carmichael Community Planning Commission.
Commission work is guided, in part, by the Carmichael Community Plan. Originally developed in 1975, the Plan was updated via an extensive public involvement process and adopted by the County Board of Supervisors in 2006. The document will guide the community’s future through 2020. For a copy of the Carmichael Community Plan, visit the Planning and Community Development website.
