Water Conservation Tips
Outdoor Watering Tips for Fall and Winter Months:
- October ’09 - For spray heads, water between 10 - 15 minutes; for rotor sprinkler heads, water between 20 – 30 minutes. For both types of sprinklers, divide the time into 2 or 3 start times to minimize or eliminate runoff. For drip, water 3 days a week, 30 – 40 minutes per day with 2 start times. All sprinkler and drip systems vary in flow rate – please reduce watering if you see water running off to the sidewalk or street.
- November ’09 – Feb ’10 (Rainy Season) – In the winter season, watering should not be necessary, but if there is a long dry spell we recommend watering 1 day per week 4 – 6 minutes for spray heads, 8 – 12 minutes for rotors and 10 – 15 minutes for drip.
- March ‘10 - For spray heads, water between 10 - 15 minutes; for rotor sprinkler heads, water between 20 – 30 minutes.

Update it - When you replace appliances choose water and energy efficient models. Watch your utility companies' websites for rebates toward the purchase of "efficient" products.
Shut it off - Turn the tap water off when brushing your teeth.
Fix it - Repair leaky spigots, sprinkler heads, hoses and dripping faucets. One leaky drip per second wastes 6,000 gallons of water per year!
Sweep it, don't wash it away - When cleaning up fallen leaves, dirt and debris, use a broom, rake or leaf blower on sidewalks, driveways and patios rather than a hose. |
Recirculate it - Swimming pools, fountains and ponds should be equipped with recirculating pumps. There "water features" should also be checked annually for hidden leaks or other problems. Cover your pool to minimize evaporation. |
Sprinkle it wisely - water 3 days a week and during the winter, turn off automatic sprinklers. |
Ask for it - Restaurants are still encouraged to serve water to customer only upon request. |
Utilize our toilet rebate program -Replace your high water usage toilet with an ultra low flow toilet for $200. |
