Art Studio Workshop
Join us for our first non-instructional art studio workshop using the facilities and the animals of the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. We will pose taxidermied animals, furs and skeletons such as ducks, owls, hawks, snakes, bobcats, etc, in various poses, offering artists (beginner and experienced) a chance to study and draw/paint them. Participants will supply their own tools and art materials (pencils, paper, watercolors, etc.) and expertise. Professional artists Libby Harmor will bring her extensive theater and exhibit experience to play in facilitating this workshop, Suited to all ages 16 and over, pre-registration required, $7 per person. Winter Birds of Sacramento
Ed Harper, long time educator, tour guide, and noted birder of the Sacramento area, will help you learn the finer points of identification, natural history and calls of the many species of birds resident in winter throughout the Sacramento region. The series of lectures and field trips are for new and experienced birders. Space is limited so reserve now! $80 per person for the whole series, $40 for lectures only. Decorative Holiday Crafting for Families
Join Auntie Libby and make some cute and clever items for holiday gifts or decorations. Help the earth by using some recycled materials. Suited for ages 5 through adult, children must be accompanied by an adults. Six per person, per day and pre-registration is required.

Every Day Grocery Shopping Can Now Help Support the Effie Yeaw Nature Center!
The Nature Center’s non-profit partner American River Natural History Association (ARNHA) has been selected to participate in the Raley’s Quality of Life program. Each time a participant shops at Raley’s, Bel Air, Nob Hill or Food Source stores, a portion of the purchase will be donated to ARNHA. There is no additional cost to the shopper to participate in the program.

Closures along American River
Due to budget reductions, beginning September 14, 2009, several access sites along the Parkway will be closed to vehicles. Signs will be posted, and visitors may still enter the areas on foot and bicycles. For information on specific access points and alternate routes, view

At Upper Sunrise, the road to the cobble beach known as the "fishing access" will be closed through Dec. 31.
Note: The Jacob Lane levee project has been postponed until Spring 2010.
