Search list of all LOST animals at the Shelter
Search other area shelters online through PetHarbor.com
Visit local shelters and check websites to see if your pet has arrived. Visit every three days.
Complete the form: download and complete the Lost Animal Report - Word or Lost Animal Form - PDF , and leave in the Lost Animal Binder in our lobby. To submit a form on-line, email County Animal Care and ask for a form to be sent to you.
Make a flier: distribute fliers within a one mile radius of where the pet was lost. Post at veterinary hospitals, grocery stores, schools, laundromats and churches. Flier should include date and place where pet was lost, type and breed and your telephone number. Do not put your name on the flier. View sample flier.
Place an ad: in the lost and found section of local papers including the Sacramento Bee (916-321-1234), Penny Saver, neighborhood and on-line bulletin boards.
To redeem (pick up) your animal:

- Obtain your animal control number - Visit our lost pet site to get your animal control number
- Get rabies vaccination history - The Shelter cannot release a dog until the history is verified. You can get your information from your vet and fax to (916) 875-5519.
- Get license status - animals cannot be released unless the licensing information is up-to-date.
