|

The new state-of-the-art shelter opened October 1, 2009. It is located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento CA 95827, just down the street from our old facility. View our FAQ page. View facility map.
Renowned animal shelter architect firm George Miers and Associates designed the shelter. View architectural drawings.
As mandated by local law, we worked with the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission - under the Art in Public Places program, to incorporate art into the new facility. Visit Arts Commission Site.
Why We Needed a New Shelter
The old animal care facility was over 40 years old and was built when the "dog pound" merely protected the public from rabies and controlled stray animals. Since then, because of legislation and changing community values, the scope of our work has broadened. Additionally, the old building was inefficient and required frequent repairs, resulting in high maintenance and operation costs.
The new facility will encourage visitors, increase adoptions and improve volunteer and employee recruitment. Not only has the bar been raised for animal facilities, it has been raised for environmental protection as well. Higher community standards for animal shelter... The expense of running the old facility... The need for modernization ...
