Business Plan
Executive Summary - DRAFT: Oct. 25, 2005

The Board of Supervisor's provided the following directives in the establishment of the Department of Neighborhood services.

  • To improve the communication between Sacramento County and neighborhoods and residents
  • To increase the involvement of residents in decisions that affect their lives
  • To solicit input on programs that the County provides in the community
  • To improve the quality of services Sacramento County delivers to neighborhoods

Keeping these directives in mind, the Department of Neighborhood Services' mission is threefold:

  1. Acts to establish the neighborhood association as the primary vehicle for: information distribution and communication; building consensus, developing resident cohesiveness and unity; establishing self reliance and determination; and the basis for local governance.  DNS helps to organize, develop and empower neighborhoods, and serves as an advocate for their involvement in the decision making process
  2. Provides support to the local small business community to improve their economic health and vitality
  3. Assist in developing business/civic/neighborhood links as the basis for on-going community improvement and sustainability.  This mission places DNS in a position to assist with improving the physical, social and economic health of the community.
