Executive Summary - DRAFT: Oct. 25, 2005
The Board of Supervisor's provided the following directives in the establishment of the Department of Neighborhood services.
- To improve the communication between Sacramento County and neighborhoods and residents
- To increase the involvement of residents in decisions that affect their lives
- To solicit input on programs that the County provides in the community
- To improve the quality of services Sacramento County delivers to neighborhoods
Keeping these directives in mind, the Department of Neighborhood Services' mission is threefold:
- Acts to establish the neighborhood association as the primary vehicle for: information distribution and communication; building consensus, developing resident cohesiveness and unity; establishing self reliance and determination; and the basis for local governance. DNS helps to organize, develop and empower neighborhoods, and serves as an advocate for their involvement in the decision making process
- Provides support to the local small business community to improve their economic health and vitality
- Assist in developing business/civic/neighborhood links as the basis for on-going community improvement and sustainability. This mission places DNS in a position to assist with improving the physical, social and economic health of the community.
