In Sacramento County, illegal dumping is defined as any material that measures at least one cubic yard or about as much as can fit in the trunk of a full-size car. It is found on the sides of roads, empty fields and vacant lots.

The County has an innovated program to deal with dumping that includes a reward for reporting illegal dumpers when it leads to prosecution.
