Best Management Practices
The Sacramento County Water Agency follows a comprehensive set of water efficiency programs called best management practices (BMPs) to continue providing customers with a reliable, high-quality water supply.
BMPs are a set of practices, measures or procedures that are beneficial, cost effective, and widely accepted by the water provider community. You may not know it but as a customer of the Water Agency you are currently participating in our best management practices. Below are descriptions of some of our BMPs:
Free Water Wise House and Business Calls
We will check your irrigation system, inspect for interior and exterior water leaks and offer a custom irrigation schedule and water-saving tips specific to your property. While it is not mandatory to implement our recommendations, we hope you'll take them into consideration to increase your water efficiency. The program goal is to reach 15 percent of our customers.
We Look for Water Wasters
The Water Waste Prohibition Program is designed to increase customer awareness and minimize water waste. Water waste usually occurs when water runs off the sidewalk and into the gutter. Water Agency employees investigate complaints and look for cases of water waste. Customers who waste water will receive a notice offering water efficiency tips. If you see someone in your neighborhood wasting water, please call us at 875-1955.
Metered Billing
Metered billing is a water efficiency tool to improve knowledge of personal water use, identify water leaks and establish a more equitable fee structure than fl at rate billing. Since January 1, 2000, all SCWA customers with new homes have been charged a metered rate. In addition, the Water Agency is implementing a federally mandated program to transition most of our customers to metered billing by 2014. Currently, more than 38,000 customers are being charged a metered rate.
