Rates, Fees, and Finances

The Water Agency provides drinking water to more than 55,000 households and businesses in eight separate service areas in the unincorporated portions of the County of Sacramento and in the Cities of Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova. We provide the day-to-day operational needs of the water system including maintenance, equipment replacement, water testing, compliance with regulatory requirements, the purchase of chemicals and electricity and many other activities that enable us to provide all customers with a high-quality water supply. While we make every effort to keep costs as low as possible, we are currently challenged with a combination of increasing service reliability and meeting operational and regulatory requirements that make rate increases necessary. Most important is the need to construct new facilities required to significantly increase the delivery of treated surface water in order to protect the long-term sustainability of groundwater supplies.

Water Rate Increase and Availability of Water Conservation Discount
The Water Agency has provided drinking water to its service area customers for more than 50 years. Unfortunately, the cost of planning, constructing, operating and maintaining water facilities to assure reliable water service continues to increase, and water rates have had to increase accordingly. Therefore, the Water Agency is increasing water rates beginning July 1, 2009 and again, on July 1, 2010.
