Gibson Ranch Park to Close for Winter
Due to continuing loss of state and local taxes, the park will be closed effective November 23. We hope to be able to open the park on the weekends in the spring. Work continues with community groups to find revenue solutions for this valuable regional asset. The horse boarding, trail rides, horseback lessons and other services provided by the concessionaire will still be available. Those boarding horses at the Park will continue to have access to the equestrian facilities operated by the concessionaire. Mitigation Work at Rossmoor Bar Now Underway
Work has begun to plant trees and shrubs on a portion of an old agricultural field in the Rossmoor Bar of the American River Parkway. These trees and shrubs are being planted in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Folsom as part of a multi-year, mitigation project to replace oak woodland that was lost during the construction of the Folsom Bridge. The 50-acre site will be planted with native oak woodland and trees and shrubs and native grasses and will visible from Rossmoor Drive and along the bike trail of western Rossmoor Bar.The site will be temporarily fenced to protectthe new plants from being eaten by deer during the first 3 to 5 years and then the fence will be removed. Closures along American River
Due to budget reductions, beginning September 14, 2009, several access sites along the Parkway will be closed to vehicles. Signs will be posted, and visitors may still enter the areas on foot and bicycles. For information on specific access points and alternate routes, view Parks Access News Release. At Upper Sunrise, the road to the cobble beach known as the "fishing access" will be closed through Dec. 31. Note: The Jacob Lane levee project has been postponed until Spring 2010. |
