Recycling Means Good Business!
|
The SWA adopted the Business and Multi-Family Recycling Ordinance that requires businesses in the City of Sacramento and the unincorporated area of Sacramento County to keep designated recyclables including cardboard, mixed paper, metal, wood and beverage containers separate from the garbage.
All businesses and non-residential properties that subscribe to a garbage services of four (4) cubic yards or greater per week are required to have a recycling program.
Whomever contracts or pays for the garbage collection, whether it is the business owner and/or non residential property owner or manager, is responsible for providing a recycling service. Each business - whether a stand alone store, restaurant, manufacturer, building owner, or office building tenant - must keep recyclables separate from the garbage in the workspace.
The Sacramento County Environmental Management Department (EMD) is responsible for implementing the SWA Business and Multi-Family Recycling Ordinance. EMD staff conducts on-site inspections throughout the SWA Region (the City of Sacramento and the unincorporated Sacramento County). Compliance with this ordinance will avoid possible enforcement action.
This ordinance will help ensure that the business community is participating in recycling programs similar to single family homes and apartment complexes, and will further assist in maintaining statewide diversion mandates.
