The Sacramento Regional Solid Waste Authority (SWA) Board adopted Ordinance 20 at its May 18, 2009 meeting, which amended SWA code by adding multi-family recycling requirements to Title IV, the Business Ordinance.
This new ordinance requires apartments and multi-family dwellings in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County and in the City of Sacramento with five (5) or more dwelling units and who subscribe to 10 cubic yards of garbage collection services per week to have a recycling program. The Sacramento Environmental Management Department (EMD) is implementing the ordinance with major emphasis on outreach and education.
Owners or managers, whomever contracts for garbage service, can choose to self-haul their materials to a recycling center, or enter into a written service agreement with a Franchised Waste Hauler or Authorized Recycler (see Recycling Services) to have their materials picked-up on site.
