Businesses Hazardous Waste: Hazardous waste generated by businesses classified as Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators (CESQG's) will be accepted in our facilities, by appointment. City of Sacramento business and apartment managers should call 916-379-0500 x 209 for information about hazardous waste disposal. CESQG Definition: By law, a CESQG is defined as a business that produces less than 220 pounds (approximately 27 gallons) of hazardous waste or 2.2 pounds of extremely hazardous waste per month.
CESQG Legal Transportation Limits: The County can legally accept up to 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste or 2.2 pounds of extremely hazardous waste from a CESQG in one month. However, California State Law prohibits the transportation of more than five gallons or 50 pounds of hazardous waste without a hazardous waste hauler's license.
To transport more than five gallons or 50 pounds of hazardous waste to the facility, a transportation variance obtained by the Waste Management and Recycling from the State of California must be carried in the transporting vehicle. Such a variance will be provided to the CESQG when an appointment is made for disposal.
CESQG When/Where/How: Hazardous waste must be transported in spill and leak proof containers, clearly labeled with their content. Containers cannot exceed five (5) gallons in capacity. CESQGs may make an appointment for any Wednesday of the month between the hours of 8:00 a.m.- noon by calling 876-9458.
The location for CESQG disposal is the North Area Recovery Station. Sacramento County will accept CESQG by appointment only with no exceptions.
