Curbside Mixed Recycling Collection 

We provide residents of the unincorporated County with every-other week mixed recycling collection service. These services are provided as part of efforts to meet State mandates to reduce landfills by 50%.

Containers:

Residents can receive 30, 60 or 90-gallon mixed recycling container and can receive one or more additional mixed recycling containers for no additional charge.

Unauthorized removal of recyclables from a curbside container is considered scavenging and is a crime pursuant to Section 6.20.160 of the Sacramento County Code. To report a recyclables scavenger, call the Sacramento County Information hotline at 916-875-5656 or TDD 916-875-7105. You can also report recyclable scavenging online.

 Collection Service:

  • Mixed recycling and green waste are collected on an alternating weekly basis. Mixed recycling is collected one week, and green waste the next
  • Containers must be at the curbside no later than 6 a.m., on your scheduled collection day, holidays included.
  • Call customer service between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., excluding major holidays, Mon.-Fri. for collection schedule information

Container set-out: 

Please place containers on the street side as shown so they do not block pedestrian sidewalk use. Keep them a minimum of six (6) feet away from cars, boats and other stationary objects to avoid risk of private property damage. Note that mixed recycling and green waste are collected on alternating weeks.

 Please note - Used motor oil should only be placed out during recycling pick-up days.

Placement and Storage of Containers:

Please remove your containers from the curbside after they are serviced on your collection day. To preserve the appearance of neighborhoods, so please store your containers in side or backyards.

Container Replacement or Repair:

To request any type of repair or replacement for garbage, green waste, or mixed recycling containers, residents should contact Customer Service by email or by calling 916-875-5555. There is no extra charge for repairing or replacing damaged containers.

Special Services:

If your container is full before your regular collection day, you can call Customer Service and request an unscheduled service for an additional charge.

Other information:

Materials must fall freely from the container when dumped, so please do not compact your materials in the container. Your containers may not be serviced if containers are overfilled, are not accessible or include inappropriate materials.   

Curbside Used Motor Oil, Cooking Oil & Oil Filter Recycling:

Used motor oil, cooking oil and oil filters are collected on the same day as mixed recycling. Please follow the guidelines below when placing your used motor oil, cooking oil and oil filters at the curb:

  • Place oil in a rigid or semi-rigid plastic container not to exceed five (5) quarts in size (examples include juice jugs, five (5) quart motor oil container, detergent bottle, 2-liter soda bottle, milk jug, or water jug).
  • Container top must be securely closed to prevent any spillage (e.g. screw-top lid). Recycle Used Motor oil graphic
  • All snap top lids must be taped shut.
  • Oil filters must be placed in a sealed plastic bag (please drain your filters before bagging).
  • Do not place oil filters in the mixed recycling container.
  • Do not contaminate used motor oil or cooking oil by mixing it with other automotive fluids.
  • Used motor oil, cooking oil and oil filters will be collected on the same day that your mixed recycling container is serviced.
  • We request that residents put out no more than three (3) gallons of oil per recycling collection day.
  • Used motor oil, cooking oil and oil filters should be placed on the ground at least three (3) feet away from the mixed recycling container.
