School Programs 

We offer a variety of programs free-of-charge to schools in the unincorporated area of Sacramento County. We encourage teachers, students and administrators to use these resources and adopt waste management and recycling as part of any environmental studies programs.

Classroom Presentations: We are available to make presentations that focus on various waste reduction and recycling efforts. 

Curricula for School Teachers:  (no charge)
1. K-6 curricula focuses on the 3 R concepts and composting and landfills.
2. Middle school lessons concentrate on history, science, social studies and math and how each relates to waste management. 
3. K-12 curricula, entitled Closing the Loop, workshops and information on waste reduction for school districts are also available from the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery.  All curricula provide hands-on exercises and meet the State curriculum guidelines. Available curricula:

    • Teacher's Guide to the 3 R's (K-6 grade, 40 lessons)
    • Borrowed from the Earth - Composting (2-6 grade, 10 lessons)
    • Landfill and Recycling Activities (2-6 grade, 10 lessons)
    • Science and Math Exercises (Middle school, 10 lessons)
    • History and Social Studies Exercises (Middle school, 10 lessons)

        

      reCreate - A Program that provides environmental education through creative reuse.       Recycling Fundraising Programs for Schools - These companies have "recycling for cash" programs to raise money for schools:
  • Tours: Tours of County operated waste disposal and recycling facilities are available upon request. Suggestions for tours of private recycling facilities are also available.
  • Videos: A selection of videos on a variety of waste management and recycling topics is available.
  • Worksheets: Worksheets published by various recycling industries and organizations are available.
